The 5,000 square foot restaurant space will seat up to 150 and feature a contemporary design inspired by downtown Mexico City. The sophisticated atmosphere will complement the restaurant’s unique take on Mexican fare.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the fresh, festive vibe that Urbano Mexican Fare will bring” said Anthony Henry, General Manager of Annapolis Town Center. “We are excited that locals and visitors alike will not only have access to our one-stop-shop for all their day-to-day needs, but also have a place to enjoy a night out with friends and family trying out some great new Mexican fare.”

Urbano Mexican Fare is owned by Common Plate Hospitality and specializes in serving contemporary Mexican cuisine along with brunch, small plates, desserts, and cocktails. The Annapolis location will be the fifth Common Place Hospitality restaurant to open in the D.C. metropolitan area, with the previous four located in northern Virginia.

“We are super excited to bring our elevated Tex Mex cuisine, cocktails and design to Annapolis,” said Chad Sparrow, Managing Partner of Common Plate Hospitality. “We believe with the new look and enhancements that is being done at Annapolis Town Center we will fit in perfectly and create a vibrancy to elevate the customer’s experience.”

The Annapolis Town Center will welcome Urbano into the Town Center’s family with a Cinco De Mayo-themed street party on May 7. The party, which will benefit the nonprofit Feed It Forward DC, will take place outdoors from 3 pm to 8 pm on Towne Centre Boulevard. Live entertainment will include a DJ, Mariachis and a performance from Quimbao Latin Band. The party will include a taco bar, beer, tequila, special prize giveaways, and will conclude with fireworks. Tickets can be found here In the event of rain, the celebration will be moved to May 14 at 3pm. The restaurant is slated to be fully open in early 2023.

About Common Plate Hospitality

Chad Sparrow and Larry Walston have been friends for over 20 years. In 2015, the lifelong friends launched Mason Social, a contemporary American restaurant in their hometown of Alexandria. On the back of the success of Mason Social they decided to expand the restaurant group in 2018 with Mexican concept Urbano 116 and Augie’s Mussel House and Beer Garden. Their exciting restaurants blend both innovative architectural design, creative culinary offerings and craft bar programs to create a full experience for their guests.

It is of no surprise that slow cooker recipes are among the most popular meals for families, couples, and singles alike. From the simplicity of their ingredients, no time to prep, and limited clean-up, these meals are an all-year-round type of deal. Yet, their true time to shine is during the cold and dry winter months. These shorter days have everyone wanting to just curl up on the couch with a warm plate in hand. Thankfully we have the recipes, the ingredients, and the utensils needed to make a delicious slow cooker dinner.

Try These Out:

French Onion Soup

A beefy broth loaded with caramelized onions, herbs, and Gruyere cheese.

Ingredients

  • 3 large white onions sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 64 oz Beef Broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • ⅓ cup dry sherry
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme (or 1 tsp dried Thyme)
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 8 slices dry french bread
  • ¾ cup Gruyere cheese shredded
  • ½ cup Emmental cheese shredded
  • 6 tablespoons fresh parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large non-stick pan, cook onions, butter and brown sugar over medium low heat until golden and caramelized. (About 20 minutes).
  2. Once golden, add to the slow cooker along with remaining ingredients except bread and cheeses.
  3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  4. Remove and discard bay leaf and ladle the soup into bowls. Top with dry bread slices and cheeses. Broil 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted and browned.

Cranberry Pork Chops

A pretty dish capturing you with its mild sweet and sour taste.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless pork chops, about 1/2-inch thick (2 to 3 pounds total)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion, from 1 small onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery, from 1 large celery rib
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth, or white wine — added to the slow cooker

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sear the pork chops for 2 minutes on each side. Immediately place them in the fridge or freezer to cool completely. (See Recipe Note and Tester’s Notes for thoughts on food safety and searing ahead.)
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion, celery, and garlic, and cook, stirring, until the vegetables are tender. Sprinkle with the salt as it cooks. Set the mixture aside to cool completely.
  3. Place the cooled sautéed vegetables, cranberries, pork chops, pepper, thyme, and brown sugar into a 4-quart slow cooker and add 1/4 cup broth or wine. Cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or until the pork chops are cooked through.

Chicken Tikka Masala

Creamy roasted marinated chicken chunks in a spiced curry sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 Tbsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne (optional)
  • Freshly cracked pepper
  • 2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 15oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the garam masala, cumin, turmeric, smoked paprika, salt, cayenne, and some freshly cracked pepper (about 10 cranks of a pepper mill). Sprinkle the spice mix over both sides of the chicken thighs, coating them liberally.
  2. Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned chicken and cook for about 3 minutes on each side, or until well browned (the chicken does not need to be cooked through). Transfer the seared chicken to the slow cooker.
  3. Add the diced onion to the skillet and continue to cook until the onions are soft and slightly browned on the edges. Remove the skillet from the heat. Add the onions to the slow cooker, then add 1/4 cup of water to the skillet and stir to dissolve the browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Pour the water into the slow cooker.
  4. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and tomato sauce to the slow cooker with the chicken and onion. Briefly stir, then place the lid on top, and turn the slow cooker on. Cook on high for 3 hours or low for 6 hours.
  5. After 3 hours on high or 6 hours on low, the chicken should be fall-apart tender. Turn the slow cooker off, then add the heavy cream. Stir gently to combine the cream with the tomato sauce. Taste the sauce and add salt if needed.
  6. To serve, spoon the chicken and tomato sauce over cooked rice and top with fresh cilantro.

Muse Paintbar ispaint and sip experience where anyone can have a fun night of painting, regardless of skill. Muse offers paints daily, as well as virtual at-home painting, and private events like parties and birthdays. Plus, they have a delicious menu that features appetizers, snacks, and a variety of fun of drinks to get the creative juices flowing.

Q: For those who don’t know, can you tell us more about what Muse Paintbar is?
A: We are the premier paint and sip experience! We provide in-store experiences across the East Coast, as well as live streaming private virtual events worldwide! Muse features top-shelf instructional classes in-person and online: no judgment, just happy little trees! Most importantly, we provide you with an opportunity to get outside your comfort zone and make memories with the people you care about the most. Whether it’s girls’ night out, date night, family day, team-building with your co-workers or your first fun night out after becoming a new mom… we see you. We raise a glass (and a brush) to you, and we are forever ready to fire off the dad jokes.

Q: How long has Muse Paintbar been around and what is its origin story?
A: What we expected was to create a fun and relaxing environment where anyone could pick up a brush and make something beautiful. What we didn’t expect was how much passion and fire our teams would bring to create the female-led business we are today.

Q: What is your favorite part of the Muse Paintbar community and your patrons?
A: We love seeing people step out of their comfort zones, put their phones down, and get creative! Whether it’s a child’s birthday party or a crazy Friday night full of thrill-seekers, we love seeing people of many different backgrounds come together, toast a drink, and create something unique!

Q: What is unique about the Muse Paintbar experience?
A: We customize each of our studios. From the window murals on our storefront to the indoor IG-worthy murals painted by local artists, to the gallery of art that our employees create and sell on their personal time, every inch of our studio is specific to that location! We’ll even play tunes that vibe with our community and put on your favorite artists’ latest album during your private party. Our paintings are approachable and beautiful and completely one of a kind since we have curated our library of paintings, thanks to the creativity of our own employees.

Q: What is it like being at the Annapolis Town Center? What are some of your favorite aspects of the location?
A: We love the diversity of Annapolis Town Center: so many different stores, restaurants, and businesses to take care of your health. We never feel like we’re competing with our neighbors, just co-existing.

Q: Do you ever get to collaborate with other tenants? If not, who would you want to be your first?
A: We’d love to collaborate with Bin 201 (for obvious reasons), but we’d love to also be the go-to location for businesses looking to host their holiday parties in a fun and creative outlet!

Q: Has Muse Paintbar been involved with any Annapolis Town Center events? If so, what has been your favorite?
A: The most recent event was the job fair. It was great to meet some other local businesses and share ideas for the coming year.

Q: What can guests look forward to in the upcoming months?
A:  Our January and February calendars are live! Join us to ring in the new year with some beautiful new paintings and bring a special someone in February to take advantage of our Valentine’s Day special classes and menus. We will also have a brand new mural painted in the bathrooms for everyone out there looking to add to their Instagram pages!

Q: And what is the best way for people to learn more?
A: Visit us on Instagram @muse_paintbar or visit our website, https://www.musepaintbar.com/events/annapolis-paint-bar and our Facebook page, @Musepaintbar.
